Eccho Rights has closed a deal in China for local remake rights to Ukrainian comedy format Crack Them Up. Production firm Shixi Media will deliver a local-language version of the show for Chinese mainland broadcaster Jiangxi.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The deal marks the first time that Jiangxi has picked up an international format.
Eccho already has signed a license deal in Germany for Crack Them Up, and said it was in negotiations with companies in several other territories, including the U.S.
The concept of the Crack Them Up format, developed by Ukrainian producer Studio Kvartal, has ordinary audience members trying to get top comedians to break up laughing. The one who does the best job walks away with a cash prize.
