After finishing second to Dr. Phil for the past eight weeks, Live With Kelly & Michael was the number one syndicated talk show for the week ending March 24.
Nielsen gives Live a 2.5 household rating (up seven percent from the prior week), which is about 3.3 million viewers a day on average, compared to Dr. Phil‘s 2.4 rating and 3.1 million viewers.
Dr. Phil, which was in reruns all week, was further impacted by CBS preempting some daytime programming to show NCAA basketball tournament games. This marks only the fourth week out of 27 weeks in the 2012-2013 season that Dr. Phil was not the top talker.
Elsewhere, many talk shows had week-to-week decreases — but a few were up in households. Those included Maury (up five percent), Katie (up seven percent), Steve Harvey (up eight percent), Jeremy Kyle (up 25 percent) and the soon-to-end Anderson (up 11 percent) and Jeff Probst (up 17 percent).
Ellen, which has been having a strong season, was in reruns and saw ratings go in reverse. Ellen hit a new season low with a 1.9 household rating, down 14 percent from the prior week.
It was a good week for entertainment magazine shows, which fed off the breakups of Katy Perry and John Mayer and that of Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough, as well as the latest legal battles facing Lindsay Lohan.
Longtime leader Entertainment Tonight had a 3.8 household rating, up 12 percent from the prior week, although that was for only three days due to college hoops disruptions.
Access Hollywood had a 1.7 HH, up 6 percent; Extra had a 1.5, up seven percent (despite preemptions) and OMG! Insider had a 1.4, up eight percent (also based on three days average).
