On Oct. 6, Stephenie Meyer released a new Twilight book, Life and Death, where she swapped Bella and Edward’s genders. Not only that, but the author changed the way the novel ended by changing the timing at the end of the book.
“This has always just been the big ‘What if?’ and I wanted to see what it would feel like if Twilight had been the end of the story,” said Meyer. “If, like Beau, Bella, had left the airport just five minutes earlier.”
In the new book — spoilers! — the Cullens get to Beau too late, and he is forced to decide between a human death and becoming a vampire.

5. A New Love Triangle
What if Edward missed the class he had with Bella but ended up still taking a trip to Alaska to visit the Denali coven? He stays there for a bit, falls in love with Tanya and then returns to Forks only to meet Bella. He is attracted to her too but has already fallen for Tanya, so a new love triangle begins, but this time with Edward as the main attraction.

3. Mike in the Spotlight
Tyler never gets into a car accident near Bella, so Edward doesn’t react and save her. He continues to keep his distance forever. Bella ends up with Mike, because Edward never leaves and she doesn’t come to rely on Jacob or get close to him in the same way.
2. Bella Dies During Childbirth
If Edward doesn’t succeed in changing Bella as she’s giving birth to Renesmee, what happens going forward? Fans could see Edward as a single father raising a half human, half vampire baby, and there would of course be conflict if Jacob imprinted on the one connection Edward has left tying him to Bella.
1. Team Jacob Wins
Bella and Alice arrive only a few minutes after a sparkling Edward steps out into the sun in Italy. The Volturi capture him and kill him, and his suicide mission is successful. Bella grieves him deeply, seeks solace with Jacob and ends up with him; they live happily ever after.
