Donna Karan is known for her understated, draped, flattering feminine silhouettes. And her Spring 2013 Collection does not veer from that path. But for NY-centric Karan, spring is not about the city but all about the colors of nature, the sun, the sky and the sea.
Many of the colors were cold-dyed to recreate the subtle and varied hues of natural wonders. Her staples included folded jackets over full skirts, empire waistlines, transparent georgette gowns that flow from a jersey top. But this collection felt less structured with gowns that drift like sea creatures through the ocean waves.
And as Twillight star Ashley Greene — who just happens to be the designer’s new spokesmodel — explains, Karan’s clothes are also all about comfort.
Other famous front fow faces at the Karan collection included: Rachel Greene, Bianca Jagger, Grace Coddington, Kimora Lee Simmons, Angela Simmons, Bernadette Peters, Anna Wintour, Nina Garcia and Rene Russo.
The highlights were a pale peach off-the-shoulder chiffon gown and a simple stone-hued draped halter gown. Emmy red-carpet ready is Karan’s beige sequined gown with barely-there spaghetti straps. (If the warm Los Angeles weather permits, that is.)
Check out the video for Greene’s interview and to hear from Karan herself.
