Russian pay TV network Amedia TV has struck an exclusive licensing deal with CBS Studios International for several TV series, including the revival of cult series Twin Peaks.
The agreement also covers The Good Wife spinoff The Good Fight, the premiere of I’m Dying Up Here, as well as Californication, Dexter and The Borgias.
“We are glad to expand our collaboration with one of our main content partner, CBS Studios International, and bring the season’s most anticipating and promising international project to Russia,” Denis Gorshkov, Amedia TV’s general director, said about Twin Peaks. He added that the series will be available on the network’s online platform Amediateka simultaneously with the U.S. premiere in late May.
TheTwin Peaks revival will also be available to users of the Amedia Premium pay TV channel. As of April 15, the series’ two original seasons will be available on Amediateka in a new dubbed version and, for the first time officially in Russia, in HD quality.
Meanwhile, Russian free-to-air network TV-3 will air the Twin Peaks revival 24 hours after its U.S. premiere under a separate deal with CBS Studios International.
Valery Fedorovich, TV-3’s general director, said: “In the ‘90s Twin Peaks revolutionized television: David Lynch achieved the impossible by creating a new television drama format and found a completely different way to interact with the audience. That’s why the new Twin Peaks fits perfectly into our philosophy ‘everything but the ordinary.'”
Lynch and Twin Peaks have a strong following in Russia. In the run-up to the premiere of the series, Russian distributor Russian World Vision is releasing theatrically restored versions of Lynch’s Eraserhead, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and Lost Highway.
