U.K. singer Olly Murs has been named Radio Disney’s “N.B.T.” (Next Big Thing), an initiative launched in 2010 to champion young recording artists and further their careers.
Murs will be featured in the shortform N.B.T. series, with cameras following him in the recording studio, on production of his music video and as he prepares for the upcoming U.S. release of his new album, Never Been Better, on March 10 and a world tour. The series airs on Radio Disney, Disney Channel and other platforms.
Murs, who is signed with Columbia Records, has spent a total of 52 weeks on the Radio Disney charts. He got his start in 2009 on the U.K.’s The X Factor, where he was the runner-up. He’s gone on to see three albums go multiplatinum and notch total record sales of more than 10 million.
“Radio Disney has been a fan of Olly Murs since we added his single ‘Heart Skips a Beat’ to our rotation in June of 2012,” said Phil Guerini, vp programming and general manager at Radio Disney. “We’re excited to team up with him for the U.S. launch of his fourth studio album and further familiarize our audience to the global talent that is Olly Murs.”
Recent N.B.T. artists include Island Records’ Shawn Mendes and The Vamps, Kemosabe/RCA Records’ Becky G, Hollywood Records’ R5 and Epic Records’ Fifth Harmony.
