Period drama Indian Summers will return for a second season, Channel 4 has confirmed.
Despite being three episodes into its debut, the heavily hyped show that stars Julie Walters has been renewed for an additional 10-episode season to screen in 2016.
Set in 1932, Indian Summers follows the drama of competing British colonial families who summer in Shimla, a town in the foothills of the Himalayas. The exploits and intrigue of the ex-pats is in contrast to a local population striving for independence. The next season will move the action to 1935.
Described as a cross between Jewel in the Crown and Downton Abbey, Indian Summers has had a great amount of U.K. media attention thrust upon it, and the critical success and strong early audience figures for the 10-part drama convinced Channel 4 to lock in a second season.
Indian Summers will air in the U.S. on Masterpiece on PBS in the fall.
