LONDON – U.K. TV networks giant ITV has turned to the Internet to help pick out its host for an upcoming dating show as the TV industry continues to look for new stars in the online world.
London comedian Daniel O’Reilly, better known by fans as online personality Dapper Laughs, will present Dapper Laughs on the Pull, a six-part co-production from Hungry Bear Media and Big Minded to screen on ITV2 this September.
Dapper Laughs on the Pull will follow in a similar vein to the self-styled ladies man’s online persona, mixing comedy sketches and real-life situations, with O’Reilly on hand to offer dating tips.
“Dapper Laughs is a brilliant new talent, so I’m excited to bring him and his risque brand of humor to ITV2,” said ITV commissioning editor Kate Maddigan. “We plan to take what he’s been doing so successfully on Vine and Facebook and supersize it, so I’m sure his original fans and many new ones will love to see his take on how to pull!”
Although O’Reilly’s TV ratings are as yet unknown, his Internet statistics have been strong. Dapper boasts more than 1 million Facebook likes, 300,000 Twitter followers and 500,000 Vine followers. He has also scored a top 10 iTunes hit in the U.K. with the track Proper Moist.
“I can’t wait to bring my brand of comedy to the ITV2 viewers. Who says you can’t sleep your way to the top?” O’Reilly said.
