LONDON — Red Planet Pictures, the U.K. independent production banner set up by scribe Tony Jordan, has inked a deal with BBC One to produce a primetime crime drama for the channel.
The show will follow a covert police department that, when the legal system fails, go to any lengths to bring the criminal elite to justice.
BBC One has commission six 60-minute episodes of By Any Means, which will be executive produced by Jordan and Belinda Campbell for Red Planet Pictures and Polly Hill for the public broadcaster’s flagship channel BBC One.
The series, created by a team of writers led by Jordan alongside Richard Zajdlic, James Payne, Jeff Povey and Richard Lazarus is set to go into production in 2013.
The writers between them have been responsible for Strike Back, New Tricks, Silent Witness and Ashes to Ashes.
No cast or director has been hired at time of going to press.
Red Planet Pictures is currently in post-production on a second series of drama Death in Paradise starring Ben Miller, which is due to air on BBC One early next year.
