French box office hit Untouchables lived up to its name on Monday night when the comedic drama was named Best Film of the Year at the 7th annual Globes du Cristal ceremony in Paris. The film’s breakout star Omar Sy earned the coveted Best Actor prize, beating even this year’s frontrunner The Artist star Jean Dujardin.
Karin Viard and Marina Fois shared the Best Actress prize for their roles in Maiwenn’s Poliss.
France’s seventh art met all of its other art forms at the “Crystal Globes” ceremony that brings together theater, TV movies, literature, fashion design and art. The prizes were voted upon by a jury of journalists spanning all areas of cultural expertise.
Actress Carole Bouquet presided over the ceremony broadcast live on Gallic public network France 3.
Also vying for Best Film of the year were the usual suspects from this year’s Gallic awards season including Maiwenn’s Poliss, Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist, Pierre Schoeller’s The Minister and Valerie Donzelli’s Declaration of War.
The Best Movie made for TV prize went to Olivier Marchal‘s Flics (Cops) which is now in its second season on leading TV network TF1.
The Gallic awards season will close on Feb. 24th with the prestigious Cesar awards ceremony.
