Atlas Distribution on Thursday announced its second deal during the Festival de Cannes, this time partnering with Ketchup Entertainment for U.S. rights to A Royal Night Out, which opened wide in the U.K. on Thursday.
Earlier this week Atlas said it acquired rights to Queen of the Desert with Nicole Kidman, James Franco and Robert Pattinson. Atlas was founded to distribute three films based on Ayn Rand‘s novel, Atlas Shrugged and, since those movies were released, the company has shifted to acquiring other films.
“We’ve partnered with Atlas Distribution given their history of marketing movies featuring strong female heroines,” said Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup, an independent financing and distribution company founded in 2012.
The deal was negotiated through Hanway Films, a financing, sales and distribution firm founded in 1999.
A Royal Night Out, produced by Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae and directed by Julian Jarrold, tells of a night in 1945 when Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret snuck away from Buckingham Palace incognito to join in May 8 VE Day celebrations.
“We’re honored to have the opportunity to bring this wonderful moment of the queen’s early years to America,” said Atlas president Harmon Kaslow. “She is an amazing woman, and this movie is a celebration of her inspirational and bold character,” added CEO John Aglialoro.
Atlas and Ketchup are eyeing an October release stateside with the goal of 1,000 screens.
