Matthew McConaughey Practices His Oscar Speech With Jimmy Kimmel (Video)

The Oscars are still 10 days away, but Jimmy Kimmel has already predicted that Matthew McConaughey will take home the best actor award, and persuaded the Dallas Buyers Club star to practice his acceptance speech when he appeared on his show on Wednesday night.

“You starved yourself to death. I feel like based on that alone you should get it,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host told McConaughey, who modestly laughed “No,” but revealed how losing 40 pounds did help him get into character.

“Doing that for five months put me in a place where I was able to surround myself with everything Ron Woodroof,” explained McConaughey, saying he was “literally and figuratively hungry. I [now] need three hours less sleep a night. I had a tremendous amount of energy from the neck up.”

When asked how he was going to top his infamous Golden Globes speech if he takes home an Oscar, McConaughey said he was going to stay on a roll and “start with ‘all right, all right, all right'” again.

“First three words that I ever said on film, which were, ‘all right, all right, all right'” he drawled — referring to his opening line as a stoner in Dazed and Confused — before finally agreeing to include ‘Dad’ in his thank you speech. “It’ll swing back somehow,” he promised.

Earlier in the energetic interview, McConaughey revealed the bloody background of his longtime friendship with True Detective co-star Woody Harrelson.

“He is a really fun ping pong player. I am pretty good, he is really good. He’s very competitive,” said the HBO star, who recalled how a few years ago they had a house rented in Hollywood and found themselves with 48 hours of nothing to do.

“About two hours later, the game had turned into ‘don’t let the ball stop'” he revealed. “So we’re dripping in sweat, I’ve got blood on me, he’s hitting a tree and running into stuff, there’s broken glass everywhere — but we never let the ball stop!”
