Some of the biggest names in morning shows stayed up relatively late to make the scene at The Hollywood Reporter‘s 2014 Most Powerful People in New York Media party Wednesday night.
Among those who stepped out were Today co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Willie Geist — both of whom were honored by THR‘s 2014 power list. But one honoree noticeably absent was Josh Elliott, who recently jumped from ABC’s Good Morning America to NBC Sports.
Although Elliott can’t appear on Today for six months, Guthrie welcomed him to the NBC family, telling THR that she’s excited about him joining the NBC team and thinks he’ll be great, especially in sports coverage.
Guthrie is also expecting an addition to her at-home family this year, recently revealing that she’s pregnant with her first child.
Her Today co-host Willie Geist said that Guthrie taking on her intense schedule, with a baby, makes her powerful.
“You know what power is? Being a mother, carrying a little baby around and doing what she does every day, which is waking up at 2 o’clock in the morning and being out til 9 o’clock at night,” Geist said of his colleague. “And soon she’s going to have an extra human being and have that schedule.”
Earlier, Guthrie joked that Geist’s name comes to mind when she hears the word “power.”
“He’s one of the most powerful people I know, or at least, that’s what he’s always telling me,” she said.
“I totally agree with her assessment of power,” Geist joked.
In terms of another type of power, super powers, Geist said he’d want the ability to teleport.
“Haven’t you ever had that feeling? You’re sitting somewhere, and the distance from your seat at work to your bed at home feels like a thousand miles,” he explained.
Guthrie then piped up that she’d like to change her desired super power, which had been the ability to get more sleep in a 24-hour period, to that.
