Tonys: ‘Wicked’ Celebrates 10 Years Onstage With ‘For Good’ Performance (Video)

In addition to celebrating the best of the season’s new musicals, the Tony Awards honored the 10th anniversary of Wicked on Sunday with a special performance.

The soaring female-friendship anthem “For Good” — made famous by original stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel — was performed with tender feeling by the show’s current Broadway leads, Christine Dwyer and Jenni Barber.

The musical is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire and tells the backstory of the witches in L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. It shattered its own record this past Christmas, becoming the first and only Broadway musical in history to gross north of $3 million in a single week.

The production has grossed $839 million since it opened in 2003 at the Gershwin Theater. Total box office from Broadway, North American and international tours, as well as productions in London, Mexico, Japan and Korea, has made the show one of Universal’s highest-earning properties in any medium, with a worldwide haul of $3.4 billion to date.

The Tonys broadcast also included previews of upcoming productions Finding Neverland and The Last Ship, as well as performances from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Violet, If/Then, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Aladdin, Les Miserables, After Midnight, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, Bullets Over Broadway and Rocky, among others.
