Joy Behar is returning to The View next season, it was announced Tuesday.
The ABC daytime show also officially announced the hiring of Candace Cameron Bure and Paula Faris. The three women will join moderator Whoopi Goldberg and new co-hosts Raven-Symone and Michelle Collins as panelists on The View‘s 19th season, which is set to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Faris will remain on Good Morning America. Additionally, The View will be broadcast live five days a week — a change from previous seasons in which Friday’s broadcast was taped on Thursday.
The announcement also confirmed that Sherri Shepherd will rejoin the show as a contributor, along with stylist Stacy London, Top Chef‘s Padma Lakshmi, GOP strategist Ana Navarro and model-actress Molly Sims.
The cast overhaul is the second in as many years; Rosie Perez and Nicole Wallace, who both joined the show last year, exited earlier this month. (Wallace declined ABC’s offer to become a contributor.) And it comes after a tumultuous and disjointed 18th season that saw Goldberg as the remaining holdover from the previous season, while Rosie O’Donnell — a lightning rod from the show’s recent past — rejoined the show. But O’Donnell and Goldberg were known to clash off air. And last February, O’Donnell left the show, citing personal reasons including the breakup of her marriage.
The View — once a ratings powerhouse — has seen its fortunes decline, as the daytime landscape has launched several imitators of the roundtable format, including CBS’ The Talk and Fox’s The Real. The View started its 18th season on a high, pulling in close to 4 million viewers. But the show shed about a million viewers, ending with an average of 2.9 million.

The View was put under the purview of ABC News last year, and Bill Wolff, a longtime producer at MSNBC who launched Rachel Maddow‘s show, was brought in as executive producer of the broadcast. But on a show where chemistry is so important, The View could not find the right mix, despite a parade of guest hosts. Behar, who left The View in 2013 after 16 years on the show, has been rumored to be returning for nearly a year.
In a statement accompanying Tuesday’s announcement, Behar joked: “Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in. Plus, Steve was getting tired of applauding every time I gave my opinion. But I’m happy to be back home. And I’m looking forward to sticking my two cents into the hot topics, especially now that Hillary and the Donald are in the spotlight.”
