No, make that sisters. Pink being the older and more popular sister at 32 . Cyrus being the annoying little copycat sister at 19.
Following the event, Cyrus’ pal Lady Gaga, who knows a little something about copying an older singer’s style, tweeted her support for the country/pop singer: “@mileycyrus u out-dressed+styled everyone last night. If anyone gives you s**t about that haircut pay no mind. u look like Brigitte Nielson.” But she also tweeted: some accessory advice: “although I did not think you needed those earrings. SHOW THAT FAB NECK.”
She has a point. But Pink has been successfully rocking her platinum mohawk for several years. It’s her trademark. Pink also posted an Instagram photo of her makeup artist and longtime hairdresser getting her ready for the VMAs yesterday afternoon. Whereas Cyrus is probably just going through a phase.
We have to wonder what Pink thinks about Cyrus aping her look. Perhaps she doesn’t mind, imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. Did they high five each at the VMAs or the after parties? There have been no such reports.
““I think I’ve finally found out who I am, and it changes every freaking day, as you can tell,” Cyrus has said of her blonde crop. “Every time I write a song, I feel like I can finally be me, because I’m not stuck into a label, all of these people telling me who to be.”
That’s not individuality. We can’t wait for you to find your personal style. But in the meantime, changes are healthy and important, especially when you’re so very young and trying to figure out who you are.
We’ve all been there.
