AP Images/InvisionThe least surprising thing about the MTV VMAs red carpet may have been that Miley Cyrus was practically naked on it. Her silver spangled suspenders and glorified loincloth left very little to the imagination and definitely left no room for panties or a bra.
But we weren’t anticipating so many stars to shun undergarments as well. Chrissy Teigen’s black gown also seemed to take inspiration from a loincloth — one wrong move and she’d be showing more than just hip bone under the flow chiffon. Although her fitted dress wasn’t as high risk, the sheer hip to thigh insets worn by Girl Code’s Liz Hernandez were not underwear-friendly.

Nicki Minaj was channeling an Oscar statue in a body-hugging gold number that was essentially a sheer nude sheath with embroidery in strategic spots. She would do well to keep her legs crossed. Ditto for Ciara, whose short dress was only made slightly more conservative with fringe.
There was also a dearth of bras. Both Martha Hunt and Karlie Kloss showed a decent amount of side boob, and fellow Taylor Swift squad member Lily Aldridge’s low-cut gown didn’t allow for any undergarments. And while covered up, Selena Gomez opted to wear nude nipple covers instead of a brassiere that shone through her black dress on camera.

Even Cyrus’ mom Tish sported a daringly high center slit dress. Guess we know where she gets it.
