Following the shocking death of season-six Voice alum Christina Grimmie on Friday evening, past and present judges, along with fellow members of the NBC singing competition, paid tribute to the late musician on social media.
Adam Levine, who served as Grimmie’s coach on the sixth season, penned of the show’s top 3 finalist in an Instagram post: “Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s death. Our hearts go out to her family.”

Blake Shelton heard the harrowing news on Friday night, telling fans that he was “praying” for the musician. Upon learning of Grimmie’s death on Saturday, Shelton tweeted of the late 22-year-old, “I’m stunned and disgusted and heartbroken that we lost that sweet little girl… Keeping @TheRealGrimmie family in my heart and mind.”

Christina Aguilera took to Twitter to praise the Voice alum as a “true fighter” and express her sadness to Grimmie’s friends and family. “So sad passing of @TheRealGrimmie,” Aguilera shared. “Beautiful member of #TheVoice family & true #Fighter. My heart goes out to her family, friends & fans. xo.”

Usher also tweeted on Saturday after hearing the sad news, calling her “an amazing soul and voice,” adding that he hopes her legacy will “live on forever.”

The Voice host Carson Daly believed that Grimmie “Had IT. Talented. Kind. Funny. Loving. Courageous. We hurt w her family.” He said of hosting the NBC show: “I take great pride. Knowing them. Hosting them. Supporting them. It’s not TV. It’s real.”
On The Today Show, Daly shared his surprise that she didn’t win the competition. “She was special. She walked in the room and she had an infectious laugh, she was determined, she was confident, but she was so incredibly sweet. You would never forget meeting her,” he said, according to the AP. “I’m shocked she didn’t actually win season six. Her star was shining so bright, which certainly makes this that much harder.”

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said, “Christina’s talent, energy, and spirit set her apart as a true star, and this tragedy leaves a gaping hole in our NBC family.” Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and reality group at NBC Entertainment, said of Grimmie, “Christina’s music inspired millions of people across America and we are heartbroken to think of the millions more who will never get to see this beautiful person and performer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and all those who are currently feeling the depths of this horrible loss.”
Grimmie was fatally shot at a concert on Friday night when she stayed after the event to sign autographs for fans. Orlando Police Chief John Mina said during a press conference on Saturday that the suspect who shot and killed the singer apparently traveled from another city in Florida to Orlando to confront her. Mina said the suspect didn’t appear to know her personally and may have been a deranged fan, although the motive was still unknown.
Season six of The Voice premiered in February 2014, with judges Usher, Shakira, Levine and Shelton.
