The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes to Undergo Vocal Surgery

The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes is going on an “unforeseen hiatus” from the British group to address vocal problems. The band announced  Wednesday that Sykes will undergo throat surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday, which happens to be his 20th birthday.

Sykes’ condition has not been revealed; British newspaper The Daily Mail reports that he is suffering from a vocal cord hemorrhage, the same ailment that sidelined Adele, and will not be able to talk for at least a month.

“Gutted,” Sykes wrote on Twitter.

The remaining four members of the “Glad You Came” boy band will continue their promotional commitments while Sykes recovers. The group has been working on a studio album, which has been delayed numerous times.

They’re also in the middle of taping a reality show for E! that is set to debut in June. The upcoming series is set in Los Angeles, meaning fans  likely will get an inside look at Sykes’ surgery and recovery.

“We can confirm that The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes will undergo specialist throat surgery on Thursday 18th April in Los Angeles and as such will be taking unforeseen hiatus from The Wanted. The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible. The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.”
