George H.W. Bush is being remembered as a man with a good sense of humor in an old video making the rounds on Saturday after the 41st president’s death Friday at age 94.
In 1992, then Saturday Night Live cast member Dana Carvey was invited to the White House at Christmas after he did an impression of Bush on the sketch comedy.
In a C-SPAN video of the White House Christmas party, Carvey came out first when “Hail to the Chief” played, and proceeded to have fun at the president’s expense with his impersonation.
The president and first lady Barbara Bush (who died in April of this year) eventually took the stage. “Dana has given me a lot of laughs,” the president said, “and the fact that we can laugh at each other is a very fundamental thing.”
Bush served as vice president to Ronald Reagan from 1981-1989, before becoming president himself from 1989-1993.
