Before it was a best picture nominee, Damien Chazelle‘s Whiplash started as a short film.
Chazelle wrote and directed the short that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, where it won the short film jury award.

In the 18-minute movie, J.K. Simmons plays the same relentless jazz instructor that won him an Oscar, while Johnny Simmons (Perks of Being a Wallflower) plays the drummer who is the object of his aggression. Johnny Simmons would later be replaced by actor Miles Teller.
With the Blu-ray of Whiplash released last week, the short has now become available.
