Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27, were both killed on live television on Wednesday after a gunman opened fire while they were broadcasting. The woman they were interviewing, Vicki Gardner, who was also shot and is reportedly in the hospital for her injuries. Journalists across the country took to social media to share their reactions to the tragic news.
Good Morning America anchor Amy Robach tweeted, “My heart is breaking for family and friends of Alison Parker + Adam Ward. A shocking, sad, sickening act of violence, we are with u WDBJ-TV.” The New Yorker‘s Jeffrey Toobin said, “A salute to our journalistic colleagues at #WDBJ.” Vox‘s Ezra Klein shared a string of information about gun violence in America.
He said the charts are “particularly important right now, as today’s insane, awful tragedy is one of so many insane, awful tragedies in the US.” He said, “Other countries don’t have this many insane, awful tragedies, and there are reasons for that, reasons we can learn from.”
