After Wendi Deng Murdoch thwarted an attempt by a British comedian to throw a shaving cream pie in her husband Rupert‘s face at Tuesday’s phone hacking hearings, she gained a number of fans on Facebook.
One fan page called “Wendi Deng (Mrs Murdoch) Fan Club” has more than 1,150 members. “KA-POW! A page to express your admiration of Mrs Murdoch’s right hook,” writes the fan page creator.
Comments on that page include, “CHUCK NORRIS FEARS NO-ONE – ‘cept our Wendi” and “Dear Madame Wendi, Every wife should be like you… 🙂 FAST and STRONG.” One person wrote, “Passionate wife …. the dream of every man… funny also Deng means ‘Good beating’ in Norwegian.”
Another page called “Wendi Deng Murdoch, body guard” also sprung up. It features a photo of her making a menacing face with the phrase “Who’s Next?” superimposed. It has just 67 members.
The “Wendi Murdoch = Ninja” fan page (120 members and growing) is full of Chuck Norris jokes. Comments include, “When wendi murdoch does press ups she doesnt push herself up, she pushes the world down.”
Wendi Deng Murdoch’s fans aren’t only on Facebook.
After two hours of tense questioning by Parliament, Culture Media and Sport Select Committee chairman Tom Watson said: “Mr. Murdoch, your wife has a very good left hook.”
Katie Couric was among those who praised her on Twitter.
