It’s awards-a-palooza this week: the Boston, San Francisco and L.A. Film Critics have just weighed in, as did the New York Online critics and the A.F.I., giving us some strong prognostication of who will be on what red carpet wearing something that someone at this exact moment is dreaming up for them. This coming week, we will see the Critic’s Choice noms on the 13th, the SAGS on the 14th, and the Globes on the 15th. But for the moment, let’s look over this week’s critics announcements, and see how the possible red carpet potential has changed.

The L.A. Critics named The Descendants best film, with runner up Tree of Life. Best actress was Thailand’s Yun Jung-Hee from Poetry, and runner up is Kirsten Dunst for Melancholia. Jessica Chastain was named best supporting actress for all of her six (count them) movies this year. The Artist was named Best Picutre of the Year by the Boston Society of Film Critics and the New York Film Critics Online, with Michelle Williams at best actress for My Week With Marilyn, and Melissa McCarthy was named best supporting actress for Bridesmaids. And the A.F.I. gave special awards to The Artist and the Harry Potter films.

SO – in terms of clothes: The Artist‘s Berenice Bejo needs to get a great stylist pronto. She apparently does not have one yet. Jessica Chastain has been working with stylist Elizabeth Stewart for many months now, so it looks like Stewart – and Chastain – will have a very fashionable few months. Michelle Williams is looking like a definite nominee, but the probable red carpet walker has been switching stylists for a while. McCarthy going to the Globes or the Oscars? Well, it could actually happen. And we are now really hoping Dunst gets some major nominations, as she’s a flawless fashion femme and would add so much gamine glam to awards season. In the meantime, the definites are sure looking like Berenice Bejo, Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams, all with a lot of designer potential, and only Michelle with a definite style in place.
