The Coach Carter helmer is attached to direct the true story of the De La Salle Spartans of Concord, Calif., home to perhaps the greatest dynasty in sports history.

In the vein of The Blind Side and Remember the Titans, the inspirational story revolves around the high school team and its young coach Bob Ladouceur, who turned the perennial loser into a legend by launching a streak of 138 straight victories. From 1992 to 2004, he guided his team to 12 consecutive undefeated seasons. Ladouceur’s Spartans inspired the ESPN documentary The Greatest Streak.
Mandalay acquired the rights to Neil Hayes‘ 2003 book and now is in discussions with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group to team on the $20 million film, which is being prepped for a September start. Mandalay likely will assemble a cast of relative unknowns around a name actor to play Ladouceur.

Scott Marshall Smith, who wrote the Robert De Niro–Ed Norton starrer The Score, is adapting the screenplay. Mandalay’s Cathy Schulman and David Zelon are producing.
Carter, whose feature directing credits also include Save the Last Dance, is repped by CAA.
