Every fashion week births a boldfaced figure who seems to show up in every single front row. Last February it was Anna Kendrick, who was everywhere at all times. And this week it’s Whoopi Goldberg (yes, you read that right), who has made rather curious appearances at six shows to date. The View host has so far popped up in the front rows of Zac Posen, Diane Von Furstenberg, Ralph Rucci, Stella Nolasco, Tracey Reese and August Getty, and is making the rounds with 19-year-old granddaughter Jerzey Dean in tow. Also by her side is fashion force Andre Leon Talley, Vogue’s former longtime editor at large who now serves as the artistic director of Zappos Couture. At DVF, Goldberg was spotted with the modern day Dorothy Parker herself, Fran Lebowitz.
On Monday evening, Goldberg breezed into Posen’s intimate runway presentation (where Anna Chlumsky, Tennessee Thomas, Kiernan Shipka and Uma Thurman also turned up) and quietly sashayed over to her front-row seat wearing a large blazer festooned with roses and marijuana leaves just before the show began.
Another curious fashion week force this time around? Champion snowboarder Shaun White, whose clothing connection dates back to 2008, when he launched his first Target collection. The Olympiad also did the front-row thing at Milan Fashion Week in 2010 and attended the Met Gala this year. But his presence this week in the front rows of Posen and Milly still seem worthy of a raised eyebrow or two.
We’ll continue tallying up our Goldberg sightings as the week progresses and alert you when she strikes again. #WheresWhoopi, indeed.
