AP ImagesAfter becoming a model during London Fashion Week, Julian Assange continues to boost his presence in the fashion world. The WikiLeaks founder is reportedly planning to open stores in India to sell WikiLeaks-branded products, according to Racked via The Washington Post.
The WikiLeaks collection will include “high-end fashion apparel, accessories, household goods, paper goods, that kind of stuff,” a WikiLeaks rep tells the newspaper, adding that the organization has “fashion designers in France and in other places who wanted to co-brand their products.”
Before WikiLeaks expands into a global market, the brand will focus on India, given its high recognition in the country. “India is one of the countries where awareness about WikiLeaks is the highest and Julian is excited about the proposition,” Olafur Vignir Sigurvinsson, an Iceland-based WikiLeaks rep, tells the Times of India.
WikiLeaks already sells goods on its website, including shirts that read “Hackers of the world unite!” and “Courage is Contagious,” but the goal of launching an official licensed fashion line will hopefully prevent abuse of the WikiLeaks logo and also help generate revenue for the organization.
Last month, Assange revealed that he would be leaving London’s Ecuadorean Embassy after spending more than two years inside under political asylum.
