TORONTO — Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, who worked together in “Y tu mama tambien,” are joining Will Ferrell in “Casa de mi padre,” the Spanish-language comedy being directed by Matt Piedmont.
Also joining the cast are Genesis Rodriguez as Ferrell’s love interest, Pedro Armendariz Jr., Hector Jimenez and Adrian Martinez.
Affinity International, the joint sales arm of OddLot Entertainment and Bold Films, is handling international sales while CAA is handling North American.
The “Padre” story is being kept under wraps, but it will be told in an overly dramatic telenovela style and feature English subtitles.
Garcia Bernal plays a family friend; Luna is Ferrell’s brother.
Ferrell is producing with his Gary Sanchez Prods. partners Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Jessica Elbaum.
Also producing are Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet of NALA Films, which is fully financing the pic.
NALA is behind “Ceremony,” the directorial debut of Max Winkler that stars Michael Angarano and Uma Thurman and premieres Monday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
WME-repped Garcia Bernal, best known for such films as “The Motorcycle Diaries” and “Amores Perros,” most recently appeared in “Letters to Juliet” with Amanda Seyfried.
Luna’s most recent major English-language work was Gus van Sant’s “Milk.” He is repped by WME.
Rodriguez, repped by ICM and manager Ivan De Paz, starred in the telenovela “Dona Barbara” and appeared on HBO’s “Entourage.”
