“Sheryl has been my partner in running Facebook and has been central to our growth and success over the years,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004 and Sandberg, 42, joined the company four years later after quitting Google.
Shares of Facebook, which went public last month at $38 apiece, closed 3 percent lower on Monday at $32.06.
Sandberg also serves on the board of the Walt Disney Co.

“Her understanding of our mission and long-term opportunity and her experience both at Facebook and on public company boards makes her a natrual fit for our board,” Zuckerberg said.
Sandberg is the eighth member of the Facebook board, the other seven being Zuckerberg, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Washington Post chairman Donald Graham, University of North Carolina president Erskine Bowles and venture capitalists Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel and James Breyer.
