BERLIN – Brazilian soccer star and two-time World Cup champion Ronaldo will attend this year’s Zurich International Film Festival to help kick off Zurich’s tribute to Brazilian cinema.
Brazil is the focus of Zurich’s New World View sidebar, with nine new titles screening representing a cross-section of the country’s cinematic output.
Rene Sampaio’s Brazilian Western Faroeste Caboclo starring Fabricio Boliveira will open the New World View section. Other films screening in the sidebar include Heleno, a biopic from director Jose Henrique Fonseca about the tragic life of 1940s Brazilian soccer star Heleno de Freitas; Gabriel Mascaro’s Housemaids; Colors from director Francisco Garcia; Bruno Safadi’s Eden; Once Upon a Time Was I, Veronica from Marcelo Gomes; Selton Mello’s The Clown; Kleber Mendonça Filho’s feature debut, the thriller Neighboring Sounds; and the graffiti documentary Grey City from directors Marcelo Mesquita and Guilherme Valiengo.
Ronaldo will attend Zurich as a soccer ambassador for his country in the lead-up to next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Zurich International Film Festival runs from Sept. 26 to Oct. 6.
