Zurich: Harvey Weinstein to Give Festival Master Class

BERLIN – Oscar champ Harvey Weinstein is a late addition to the official program of the Zurich International Film Festival, which kicks off Sept.  26.

The Weinstein Co. topper will attend the Swiss fest this year to take part in Zurich’s ZFF Masters series, public podium discussions with leading film industry professionals.

ZFF Masters participants this year include Oscar-winning director Michael Haneke (Amour), World War Z director (and Zurich festival jury president) Marc Forster, award-winning Swiss filmmaker Markus Imhoof (More Than Honey) and Working Title co-founder Tim Bevan.

Ron Howard’s period racing drama Rush kicks off the 9th Zurich fest Sept. 26 and festival highlights include gala premieres of Alfonso Cuaron’s space thriller Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock; James Gray’s The Immigrant with Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix; and Colin Firth starrers The Railway Man and Devil’s Knot.

The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman will receive Zurich’s Golden Icon honor and the festival will screen his latest, the Denis Villeneuve-directed crime thriller Prisoners. Zurich will give its career achievement award to Tim Bevan and fellow Working Title founder Eric Fellner. Haneke will receive the festival’s A Tribute to… honor and Zurich will screen a retrospective of five of his most important films: Funny Games, The Piano Teacher, Cache, The White Ribbon and Amour.

In total, some 122 films, including 22 debuts and 16 world premieres, will screen in Zurich this year. The festival runs through Oct. 6.
