George Clooney shines light on crises

Actor honored for humanitarian efforts Sunday

He's a movie star who has learned how to harness the power of TV to help millions.

When George Clooney put together his Haiti telethon, it climaxed a career of good works, including a years-long fight against the genocide in Darfur and support for the victims of the 2005 tsunami in Indonesia.

Now the TV Academy is recognizing his endeavors, presenting him with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award on Sunday.

"George was an obvious choice," ATAS chairman John Shaffner says. "(He) has compelled us to action."
