The 'Game of Thrones' author is stumping for New Mexico's Tom Udall

George R.R. Martin has created some of the most politically savvy characters in recent literature — and now he's entering the political game in the real world.

The Game of Thrones author is lending support to Sen. Tom Udall's campaign by hosting a fundraiser for the New Mexico Democrat. The event will take place Oct. 7 at Martin's personal theater in Santa Fe, where the author lives.

The Udall campaign is holding a contest to meet Martin, with people donating $5 or more entered to win a trip to Santa Fe for a reception with the author and the senator. The public can also pay for a ticket to have dinner with Martin for $2,600, or purchase a general admissions ticket for $250.

Among the political causes Martin holds dear is conservation and environmental issues. He has used his blog to sound off on politics on multiple occasions, including celebrating President Barack Obama's reelection in 2012.

Udall is a first-term Senator and faces Republican Allen Weh in the election, which Udall is expected to win.
