Gere, Verhoeven on new fest jury

Richard Gere, Paul Verhoeven and Ridley Scott are among the high-profile jury members on tap for the inaugural I've Seen Films short film festival to be held in Milan this year, festival organizers said Thursday.

The event, set for Sept. 22-26, will focus on international and Italian short films that will compete in at least two competitive categories.

Other jury members are director Robert Rodriguez and musician Ludovico Einaudi.

Among the festival's special events will be a sidebar dedicated to films about AIDS victims, and a workshop hosted by actor Rutger Hauer. The festival lineup will be announced near the end of summer.

The festival joins an already crowded Italian film festival calendar, but will occupy a niche that is lightly addressed in Italy: It is the only festival here dedicated entirely to short films.
