German Box Office: 'The Nanny' Tames 'Shaun the Sheep'

Der Nanny Still 2015

The new German-language comedy from local hitmaker Matthias Schweighofer beats 'Cinderella,' 'Insurgent.'

German actor-director Matthias Schweighofer has landed another local hit with his latest comedy The Nanny, which opened atop the German box-office charts with a weekend take of $2.8 million (€2.6 million) for distributor Warner Bros.

The opening weekend was the weakest so far for a Schweighofer-directed film, but his fourth effort as writer/director/producer/star still beat all comers, including StudioCanal's claymation feature Shaun the Sheep, which landed at No. 2 with $1.85 million (€1.7 million).

Right behind it was YA sci-fi actioner Insurgent, followed by DreamWorks Animation's Home, which earned $980,000 (€900,000) on its opening weekend for 21st Century Fox in Germany.

Completing the top five was another Fox title: Matthew Vaughan's Kingsman: The Secret Service, which grossed $933,000 (€857,000)
