German boxoffice sees slight uptick

'WALL-E,' 'Baader Meinhof Komplex' open big

COLOGNE, Germany -- Germany's boxoffice was up by the slimmest of margins in the third quarter to 195 million euros ($270 million), thanks to a boost from Disney/Pixar's "WALL-E" and local drama "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex," which both opened big last weekend.

The result was a half-million euros more than in third-quarter 2007, according to figures released Thursday by Nielsen EDI. Ticket sales, however, were down a sharp 7%, at 29.6 million compared with 31.7 million tickets sold over the same period last year.
