German Distribs Predict Billion-Euro Year

No Soccer to Impede 2011 Box Office

COLOGNE, Germany – With no World Cup to kick ticket sales offside, Germany’s distributors are predicting a record year in 2011.

The association of German film distributors said next year German box office should crack the 1 billion Euro ($1.4 billion) mark for the first time in history, driven by stronger revenues for 3D screenings and by an apparently can’t-miss slate of blockbuster sequels, including the finale to Warner’s Harry Potter franchise.

Germany is also banking on a series of local-language sequels, among them the latest editions in hit franchises Rabbit Without EarsMen in the City and Vicky the Viking.
