In2movies demise put down to lack of content

MUNICH -- German download-to-own film platform in2movies, which was launched in April 2006 by Warner Bros. Entertainment and Hamburg-based mobile entertainment dealer arvato mobile, will officially go offline June 11, the company reported on its Web site Wednesday.

Although a few independent film houses provided content in addition to the Warner Bros. library, and cooperation partners such as AOL, O2 and retailers including World of Video and Media Markt were on board at different times, ultimately it was most likely the failure of in2movies to secure content from other major studios that led to the platform's demise.

German pay TV operator Premiere had expressed interest in the "own-load" platform at the end of last year, but pulled out of talks in April.
