German highway cop drama's arresting ratings

200th episode of 'Alarm for Cobra 11' draws record ratings

COLOGNE, Germany -- The 200th episode of German autobahn action series "Alarm for Cobra 11" blasted through the ratings roof, drawing 5.14 million viewers, the best result for the show in more than two years.

The 200th episode: "The End of the World," scored a 23.5% share in the key 14-49 demo Thursday night, easily winning the evening's ratings race. The last time "Alarm for Cobra 11" scored so high was back in 2007, with the pilot to its 19th season, which drew 5.8 million viewers.

When it first launched in 1996, "Alarm for Cobra 11" was one of the first of a wave of high-end local German productions that drove Hollywood fare off primetime. Nearly a decade and a half later, it is the only German-made drama production still in primetime on any commercial channel here.
