German online advertising climbs in H1

Online ad market up 27% to $1.2 billion

COLOGNE, Germany -- The online advertising market jumped 28% in Germany in the first half of this year to €912 million ($1.2 billion), according to a study carried out by Thomson Media Control on behalf of German new media association BITKOM.

The study found telcos and online service companies still account for the largest share of Internet advertising in Germany, booking €268 million ($347 million) in H1 2010. A fair distance behind are retailers, with €144 million ($186 million) in online ad bookings and media and entertainment firms, which paid for €143 million ($185 million) in Internet spots, pop-ups and banner ads.
