German producers association disbands

COLOGNE, Germany -- Film20, the German lobby group formed in 2001 to push for better conditions for independent producers, is disbanding so that its members may join a new association that will group German film, television and entertainment format producers.

The new association, the Alliance of German Producers -- Film & Television, will have its inaugural meeting next week in Berlin. The new group will act as an umbrella association for German producers, with three board members representing the interests of the film, television and entertainment producers lobbies.

But the new alliance will not include some of Germany's biggest production houses.

The Association of German Feature Film Producers and AG Spielfilm, which between them represent local giants as well as boutique outfits, will not join the new group -- although individual members may still choose to do so.

The two established associations, however, have said they plan to work closely with the new producers alliance.
