German TBS digital nets cross million mark

MUNICH -- Turner Broadcasting System's digital entertainment package in Germany and Switzerland now reaches a million subscribers in the two territories, TBS Germany said Friday.

Cartoon channels Boomerang and Cartoon Network, along with Turner Classic Movies, broke into Germany's digital market less than a year ago. This makes their growth "the most successful balance of all broadcasters to enter the German-speaking digital pay TV market in 2006 and 2007," the company said.

"We are very proud of the good news from our entertainment broadcasters," said Hannes Heyelmann, director of business development and distribution for TBS in Germany. "The potential of the digital market is far from being reached. This development proves that the demand for high-quality niche channels is very high."

The TBS channels are available on the digital slates of all the major cable operators as well as the satellite platform arena SAT. The company plans to expand its satellite reach with Premiere Sky.
