The pay TV channel will be the world's first global German-language entertainment network.

RTL Germany, Germany's leading commercial broadcaster, has unveiled plans for an international pay TV channel, repackaging its entertainment content for a global audience.

The channel, RTL International, will premiere Jan. 18 in multiple territories, including Canada, Australia, Israel, Georgia, South Africa and Namibia, and will bow in the U.S. in February. RTL has signed several distribution deals already, including with Canada Bell, Charter Communications in the U.S. and FlipTV in Australia.

From the second quarter on, RTL International will also be available for streaming online and through RTL's in-house app.

Billed as the first-ever global German-language pay-TV network, the channel will offer RTL's exclusive in-house programming, including live news coverage, drama series and soaps, and magazine and entertainment shows.
