Giant numbers for NFC chiller

NEW YORK -- The NFC Championship Game on Sunday was the most-watched non-Super Bowl program on TV since the "Seinfeld" finale in 1998.

The Green Bay Packers-New York Giants overtime game on Fox averaged 53.9 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday. It was the biggest conference championship game since 1995 and the most-watched program on TV -- other than Super Bowls -- since the 76.3 million viewers who watched the last episode of "Seinfeld."

It also marked the best ratings in adults 18-49 for a conference championship game since 1996 and men 18-34 since 1998.

Meanwhile, the AFC Championship Game in the earlier broadcast window wasn't shabby either. The New England Patriots-San Diego Chargers game on CBS averaged 44.8 million viewers, up 3% from last year's NFC championship, making it the second most-watched program of the season.
