How to Get Gigi Hadid’s Experimental SI Party Eye Makeup
All eyes on her shadow.
Gigi Hadid isn’t just a pretty face to makeup artist Patrick Ta — she’s a pretty face who allows him to experiment and have fun. For the model’s appearance Tuesday at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition VIP press event — which Ashley Graham and Lily Aldridge also attended — her go-to guy created a statement-making look fitting of her up-for-anything nature.
Hadid’s sexy, see-through bodysuit called for a fierce look, according to Ta: “We went for fresh glowy, bronzy skin and a muted lip to have all the attention on her eye shadow play, because I want the burgundy pigment to be the star!” To achieve the pinky-bronze blush in the crease, Ta didn’t have the color he wanted so he mixed and layered two pigments.
First he applied Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Pure Pigment in Pink Rebel ($7) to her lids with a flat brush and lightly blended it upward. Ta then lightly applied the same formula in the Improper Copper ($7) shade on top to create burgundy. “If you have burgundy already, of course, just go straight to that color,” he says. Tove Lo wore a similar shadow shade at Monday night’s Grammy Awards.
The beauty guru decided to skip false lashes so they wouldn’t cover the eye-catching shadow on her lids, so he curled her natural fringe and swiped on two coats of mascara. For those recreating the look at home, Ta advises, “Remember when wearing a bold eye color you want to let that color shine, so keep the rest of the face clean and fresh and the color will be cool instead of tacky.”
