Giret named editorial director at France 24

Gregoire Deniau was fired from the post last week

PARIS -- French international news channel France 24 has named Vincent Giret editorial director, replacing Gregoire Deniau, who was fired from the post last week, France 24 said Thursday.

Deniau's dismissal for what France 24 has termed "professional mistakes," sent shockwaves among the channel's journalists, who protested the decision.

Giret previously served as co-editor of Gallic newspaper Le Parisien/Aujourd'hui from 2005-07 and of l'Expansion from 2000-05, in addition to radio and television work.
