GLAAD honors 'Milk,' ABC duo


Focus Features' Oscar-winning "Milk" was honored as the outstanding film in wide release at this year's GLAAD Media Awards.

ABC's "Desperate Housewives" was named outstanding comedy series during Saturday's ceremony at the Nokia Theatre, and that network's "Brothers & Sisters" was named outstanding drama.

Kathy Griffin received the group's Vanguard Award, and V. Gene Robinson received its Stephen F. Kolzak Award.

Special-recognition prizes were given to Showtime's "The L Word" and "Prop 8: The Musical," which bowed on

Jonathan Tolins' "Secrets of the Trade" won for best Los Angeles theater production.

The prize for outstanding individual episode in a series without an LGBT character went to the "Unidentified Funk" installment of CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine."

"Ellen & Portia's Wedding Day," from "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," was named outstanding talk-show episode. (partialdiff)
