GlassBOX Hires Former Shaw Media Exec Vanessa Case
Ex-Alliance Atlantis Communications CEO Michael MacMillan has made his first high-profile hire since acquiring a majority stake in the Canadian broadcaster last year.
TORONTO - Canadian cross-platform broadcaster GlassBOX Television has hired former top Shaw Media programmer Vanessa Case to head up its program acquisition and scheduling duties.
Naming Case as executive VP of programming marks the first high-profile hire at GlassBOX after former CSI co-producer Michael MacMillan acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2011.
Case most recently oversaw cable channel programming and scheduling at Shaw Media as both senior director and VP of content.
While at Shaw Media, she managed some of Canada’s top-rated channels, including HGTV Canada, History and Slice.
MacMillan, as then head of the former Alliance Atlantis Communictions, sold those channels to then Canwest Global Communications Corp. in 2007, before they were last year acquired by Shaw Communications as part of a separate transaction and rebranded as part of Shaw Media.
That second sale was soon followed by MacMillan signaling his return to broadcasting by acquiring a controlling-stake in GlassBOX Television.
“Having Vanessa join our executive team is another step towards our vision of building a strong content-rich media company,” Raja Khanna, CEO of GlassBOX Television, said Monday on news of Case’s appointment.
