'Good Morning America' Co-Anchor Lara Spencer to Host National Board of Review Awards

The New York event will take place on Jan. 7, 2014.

Good Morning America co-anchor Lara Spencer will host the 2014 National Board of Review Awards Gala.

The film group will announce this year's winners on Dec. 4 and honors will be handed out Jan. 7, 2014 in New York.

“It is such an honor to be hosting this year’s NBR gala,” Spencer said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with [NBR president] Annie [Schulhof] and the rest of the team over the next few months as we prepare for what will be an amazing evening of recognizing the year’s best in film.”

Schulhof added: “We are excited Lara will host this year’s gala. Her rich background in the entertainment industry and passion for all things media makes her the perfect host for the evening.”

The National Board of Review also will recognize George Stevens Jr. with the William K. Everson Award for Film History. Stevens is an award-winning film and television writer, director, producer, founder of the American Film Institute and co-creator of the Kennedy Center Honors.

The National Board of Review is made up of a select group of film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, academics and students. Its award winners are often seen as predictors of Oscar nominees.
