GMX acquires inDplay

Ascent Media unit launches early next year

SAN FRANCISCO -- Ascent Media Group's Global Media Exchange has picked up rival digital marketplace platform inDplay.

The acquisition allows GMX, which launches early next year, to ramp up quicker with additional industry savvy, particularly in the area of independent film, a specialty of inDplay. The deal also gives GMX thousands of additional titles.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GMX, which facilitates content sales internationally via an entirely digital operation, is expected to announce a slate of content partners at MIPCOM. Liberty Media-owned entities are expected to participate as Liberty CEO John Malone also is CEO of Ascent parent company Discovery Holding.

A pioneer in digital content transactions, the Silicon Valley-based inDplay will see its brand continue under GMX. In addition, Peter Levin has been appointed executive advisor to GMX.
